Estate and Succession Planning

These matters may be handled either on an hourly fee basis or on a flat fee basis.

Pre-need Medical Directive Planning

For individuals, having a power of attorney and a medical power of attorney are often far more important than having a will.  The simple form "living will" prescribed by the Code of Virginia, which is the form most often disseminated by hospitals and other health care providers, is inadequate for most people, and serves to protect the interests of health care providers more than the interests of the patient.  We can help you prepare a medical power of attorney that is tailored to your needs, and we have created a unique "omnibus" advance medical directive that combines the elements of a "living will" with a very detailed medical power of attorney.  The omnibus advance medical directive gives our clients the ability to tailor their wishes and instructions before a medical emergency forces a decision, or worse, exposes a poor decision.

Powers of Attorney

For individuals, having a power of attorney and a medical power of attorney are often far more important than having a will.  We have the experience to work with you to prepare powers of attorney specific to your business and personal needs, including general powers of attorney, limited-time and limited-purpose powers of attorney, "springing" powers of attorney, and powers of attorney related to the management and succession of business interests.

Trustee and Executor Services

Our firm is authorized by Virginia law to, through its attorneys, render fiduciary services to individuals, estates and trusts by serving as Trustees under trust instruments, including lifetime trusts or trusts created as part of a last will and testament. We may also serve as executor or administrator of an estate. These matters may often be handled on a fixed fee basis.  Please contact us for a copy of our current fee schedule.
